Last Second Chance (Second Chance #1) by Caisey Quinn

Last Second Chance (Second Chance #1)
Release Date: May 19th 2014
Rate: Enjoyed it (4 stars)

When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she’s tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family’s ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?

What she didn’t count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn’t expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he’s famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella’s heart would be irreparable.

Van isn’t at Second Chance for publicity or because he’s suffering from “exhaustion”. He’s on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn’t sure she can give. But without her, he'll lose everything. Because he’s on his last second chance.

Last Second Chance is a hot, steamy love story about two people who are completely lost and broken and find a way to heal themselves with one another.

I love Caisey Quinn's stories because all her characters are beyond lovable and the stories are sexy, hot and definitely one that you cannot forget. With Last Second Chance is no different from her other novels. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I read it all in one night and Van and Stella's story completely captivated me.

Van Ransom is your typically bad boy: rock star, covered in tattoos and someone who has not problem fiding a woman. He lives his rock life to the limit: booze, woman and music. But his drunken actions has cost him a ticket to Second Chance Ranch, the place where all celebrities end up to detox. He doesn't have a problem with alcohol, but if he doesn't go to Second Chance Ranch it could cost him his music career.

Van doesn't like this measure, but he'll do anything for the contract waiting for him after he finishes his time in Second Chance Ranch. It should be easy right? No booze and no girls. However, Van's plans shatter the very first time he lands his eyes on Stella.

Stella's a new graduate who finds a job in Second Chance Ranch. While taking care of obnoixous celebrities wasn't her dream work, he likes to help people and Second Chance Ranch does that. Accepting the job in that facility means no talking about the patients to the press and, more important, no involving herself with anyone. So when she meets Van, with his sexy bad boy charade and his hot body, things turn out to be unexpectedly difficult.

I love this story. The chemistry between the two main characters was almost palpable and it was difficult to not like either one of them. Van suffers a radical change from careless bad boy, to a reformed bad boy-rockstar who wants to do the right thing. Love it.

There's a lot of passion and sexual tension in every single chapter and the fact that their relationship is forbidden makes things more exciting; wanting to know when they would succumb to their desires instead of following their rational thoughts.

But, despite that their relationship has a lot of sexual tension and it's obvious both of them feel attracted to one another, their relationship goes to a whole new level once they start to interact. Spending time with Stella, makes Van see how lost she truly is and makes him want her more. And for Stella, she sees how broken inside Van is and how she needs someone who helps him heal his soul.

Second Last Chance is one of those New Adult romances you simply need to read, because it becomes mostly an obsession. With a sweet finale that leaves the reader perfectly satisfied, Second Last Chance is definitely a must read to those New Adult readers and Caisey Quinn's fans.

“Tell me. Tell me how you feel.”
His hand reached over and clasped the riding crop. She couldn’t stand the thought of letting him hit her with it again if he wasn’t going to finish what he’d started.
“I feel pissed, all right? And if you hit me with that fucking thing one more time and do not let me come, then you better leave me tied up.”
His answering grin made her want to slap his face. “What do you want to do to me right now?”
“Slap you. Hard,” she answered honestly as hot tears filled her eyes.
“But you can’t, can you?” The gleam in his eyes further ignited her fury. Her chest heaved, bringing her breasts into her own line of sight.
“No. I can’t. But I doubt you plan to leave me like this forever.” She would’ve shrugged to feign nonchalance if it were physically possible.
“Tell me what you’re going to do when  and if I untie you.” He stared down at her, clearly exerting his dominance.
Just as she opened her mouth to answer, he thrust two fingers roughly inside her.
“Oh!” she cried out unexpectedly.
“Tell me or I stop,” he said, plunging in and out steadily.
“I need to know… I need to know where this is going,” she whispered as she fought for breath. She had no idea how much more her body could take. His arm flexed as he controlled every bit of her pleasure with his hand. Licking his lips, his eyes met hers.
“Seriously? I think a better question might be where is it not going.   And whether or not I plan to untie you.”

It wasn’t quite as cozy as her bungalow. She passed through a small kitchenette and spotted a black leather couch across from a fireplace. Her eyes landed on a giant buffalo head above the fireplace.
“That’s Dave,” Van informed her. “
You named him?” She couldn’t help but grin.
“He’s an excellent roommate. Never complains about noise and cleans up after himself.”
“I see.” She bit her lip to keep from giggling.
“Have a seat. Let’s get this checklist business over with so we can get to more important things.” He aimed a pointed glance at the table where he’d tongue fucked her nearly to death.
Stella’s entire body flushed to the point of painful burning. Ignoring his insinuation,   she lowered herself onto a kitchen chair. Fighting off the memory of him growling against her open legs when that same chair hadn’t provided him the access he’d wanted, she pulled out her folder. “Um, this shouldn’t take long.” “I have all the time in the world, cowgirl.” He eased onto the couch and she looked anywhere but at him.
“You could, um, change. Or put some clothes on. I can wait.”
“I’m good,” he said with a shrug as he stretched an arm with intricate tattoos wrapped around it onto the back of the couch. “Unless you’re uncomfortable?”
Stella took a deep breath. She was as uncomfortable as it got. Her heart was racing, her pulse seemed to have sped to an astronomical rate, and the steady throbbing between her legs was causing her to sweat.
“It’s like you’re torturing me on purpose,” she admitted, pointing her pen at him. His answering grin revealed that he was  enjoying every minute of her discomfort.
“Now you know how I feel when you strut around in those fucking heels.”
Crossing her legs, Stella leaned back and focused on the checklist in her lap. “Let’s just get on with it, shall we?”
“By all means.”
Taking a deep breath in hopes of sucking in some courage, she read the first question carefully. “On a scale of one to ten, one being unsatisfactory and ten being ideal, how would you rate the accommodations here at SCR?”
Van glanced over at Dave and then back to her. “Dave says a ten. We rate it a ten.” Stella circled the number ten and bit the inside of her cheek. He was nothing if not charming. Damn him. “On a scale of one to ten, one being—”
“I got it, cowgirl. Read the questions and I’ll give you a number. Or better yet, circle all tens and take that fucking dress off.”
“That’s not quite how it works, Mr.   Walker.” She gripped the pen tighter so he wouldn’t see her hands shaking.

“Oh, I know exactly how it works,” he said, leaning forward. “I know precisely how you like it, what makes you scream, and how to make you beg.”
