Rate: Enjoyed it (3.5 stars)

Synopsis:

Conner Burke never expected Sofie Callahan to come back.

Where she’s been for the last two and half years is a mystery, and so is the reason she left in the first place. Now, though, she’s back in their hometown of Shelton Bay, South Carolina, at the same time Conner’s band Dirty B is home on a tour break.

Sofie Callahan has spent the months since her father’s death avoiding anything to do with her home town. But with her brother in Afghanistan, she has no choice but to return and sort out her father’s house, even if it means facing the boy she fell in love with and revealing the reason she left.

Conner has questions, and when his broken heart and her guilty one collide, Sofie has to start answering them. Their present is rocky, their future unknown. Only one thing is certain:

Sofie’s daughter will change everything.

Dirty Secret is one of those stories that has everything that's needed to be a good story: it has a rock star, a teenage romance, drama, mistakes and something that could tear them apart or unite them once again.

Dirty Secret starts with Sofie returning to her hometown and facing her teenage boyfriend. But she has more problems that facing a "what-could-have-been" boy, because she has a daughter and the father knows nothing about her or why she left without notice town those years ago.

So as you can imagine the story starts telling us their past and retelling what's about to happen between Connor and Sofie. It's not a sweet story where the lovers reunite and they give another chance to their relationship. There's a kid involved and lies and it's important in this book to see the consequences of the choices we make even when we think it's the right thing for the ones we love.

Although it was hard for me to keep up with Sofie's character, because I didn't understand her actions sometimes, I did like the drama and romance between her and Connor.

Emma Hart also gives us the chance to meet the whole Burke family while in the mess of catching up with what the two main characters have lost and it's a nice way to be introduced in the future books of this series, since we are going to have more Burke brothers in the future.

Overall, Dirty Secret was a nice New Adult story about the choices we make that can lead to serious consequences and the opportunity to have a second chance at love if there's some forgiveness. Emma Hart reminded me that's not always too late to say I'm sorry and have the happy ending everyone deserves.

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to a terrible two year old and growing bump, due September 2013. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of juice and writes books.

She likes to write about magic, kisses and whatever else she can fit into the story. Sarcastic, witty characters are a must. As are hot guys. Emma is currently working too many books to even count - including Playing for Keeps, the companion book to the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel, The Love Game. She likes to be busy - unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to when all the ideas come to life.
