Then Jay asks for a favor she didn’t see coming – one that leaves Kelsey torn between her growing loyalty to Jay and throwing away the new future she worked so hard to build.

CHAPTER ONE

For the first time in almost a year, I feel safe. My sandals slap against the uneven sidewalk, and I wave back at the old man driving by in a green pick-up truck. His toothless grin should scare the crap out of me, but something about this place makes it okay. I’ll even forgive its lack of a real downtown. I went in search of one of those quaint main streets with specialty coffee shops and expensive clothing stores, and all I found were a bunch of empty buildings for lease and a no-name pizza place. So much for small town charm.
I turn the corner to my house and skid to a halt. The edge of my sandal catches in a crack, and I lurch forward, scraping my palms against the cement. There’s a leg dangling out my bedroom window as if it’s not attached to a body. It reminds me of a cricket I caught when I was eight. I’d accidentally ripped its leg off trying to make it dance. I shudder and pick myself up, my palms burning.
I glance at the driveway. Mom and Dad’s cars aren’t there.
The person in the window struggles to squeeze his way out. Blue jeans and a ratty running shoe. Painter, maybe? Repair person? But there’s no work van in sight.
The rest of the body lowers from the window. I suck in a breath and duck behind a parked car just as he jumps.
Five, four, three, two, one. I pop my head up just enough to see over the hood.
He’s crouched on the ground, so I creep up a little higher and let out a breath. He’s tying his shoe? What kind of thief would stop to tie his shoe, let alone come out empty handed?
Anger rises in my chest and I clench my fists. What does this guy think he’s doing? I pop up from behind the car without thinking. “You could have used the door, you know!”
My mouth snaps shut as soon as the words are out. What am I doing? For all I know this guy could have a gun or something. I almost duck behind the car again when he looks up, but he turns away again just as quickly as if I never said a thing. He just finishes tying his shoe and shakes his head to get the hair out of his eyes.
I finally catch a glimpse of his face. He’s young – my age maybe. Too young to be someone my parents hired. He heads toward the street, and I glance up at the open window again.
Something doesn’t seem right.
“Hey!” I yell. “Wait!” Against my better judgment, I start after him, but he still doesn’t turn around. My hand closes around the cell phone in my pocket. The police. I should call the police. I fumble with my phone, and it clatters onto the sidewalk.

The guy looks back.

Synopsis:

This shouldn't be happening again

Amber Scott thought her screaming nightmares would end now that her stalker is locked up and awaiting trial. But they return when her slam-dunk case starts to fall apart. Explicit letters she allegedly wrote surface, suggesting she was the mastermind behind her assault, a willing victim.

Amber only feels safe in the arms of her boyfriend Marcus, the one person she can lean on. Until damning evidence from Marcus's past collides with the case and the media circus drags them both down. To protect Amber's reputation, Marcus has only one option: end their relationship. He won't risk further damage to her case, even if it means breaking her heart.

Amber has to find the strength to step into the spotlight and bring awareness to victims' rights before she's convicted in the court of public opinion. And she's really not sure what's worse—that her kidnapper could walk free, or that the seemingly endless attention and speculation will drive Marcus away permanently.

See how it all began for Amber and Marcus in Tell Me When.

LET ME KNOW
by Stina Lindenblatt

Marcus

The warm, soft body under my arm jerks, jolting me awake. I open my eyes to find my room is still dark and Amber’s whimpering and moving restlessly on the bed.

I run my hand down her bare arm. “Amber, you’re having a nightmare.”

She mumbles something and her knee lashes out. She makes a direct hit. Against. My. Fucking. Package. A white light blinds me and I squeeze my eyes shut. Groaning, I fold in two at the same moment Amber starts screaming. Shit.

Somehow around the mind-numbing pain, I manage to pry my eyes open. I need to calm her down before she wakes up the whole goddamn building with her screams.

“Kitten, it’s okay. It’s just a nightmare.”

She continues tossing and turning in her sleep. I can’t believe she hasn’t woken herself up with the noise she’s making.

Pushing past the pain, I scoot closer to her and touch her arm again. She sits up abruptly, still screaming, arms flailing. The sheet drops away, revealing her breasts. For once, my dick isn’t interested.

I sit up, and while risking all kinds of injuries, gather her in my arms. Unlike before, she relaxes at my touch and her screams fades away, to be replaced by gentle sobbing.

Amber rests her head against my shoulder as Chase busts into the room. At the sight of a half-naked Amber, he spins around, mumbling, “Sorry.”

I pull the sheet up to cover her breasts. “You can turn around. She’s covered.”

Chase turns back to us, face redder than I’ve ever seen. He doesn’t embarrass easily and it’s not like he’s never seen a naked woman before. Pride rushes through me at his reaction. He knows Amber’s mine. He respects both that and her.

“You guys okay?” he asks. “I heard you groaning and her screaming, and neither of you sounded like you were having good time.”

“She had a nightmare,” I tell him. Chase knows she suffers from them. She’s woken up before, screaming, but never this bad. At least not while she’s been with me.

Amber lifts her head from my shoulder. “I’m sorry I woke you,” she whispers, voice hoarse.

Chase steps up to the bed and smiles. “Scooch over,” he tells her. She does and he sits next to her. “You gonna be all right?” He’s not just referring to what happened. He’s referring to the fake love letters and everything else she’s dealing with, no thanks to the psychopath.

It’s something we’re all wondering. Me. Her mom and grandmother. Emma. Jordan. None of us want to see her destroyed because of what the sick fuck did to her. She’s so strong, but even steel has its limits.

Synopsis:

It’s Renna’s biggest job yet – convincing MYTH leadership that she’s put away her lock picks and is ready to save the galaxy, despite the dangerous implant in her brain. But with the Athena on the run, she’s working solo and facing her most ruthless enemy, the traitor Pallas, who’ll go to any lengths to destroy the MYTH organization. Including framing Renna for a devastating assault on MYTH HQ that leaves their defenses crippled and hundreds dead.

Now that MYTH believes she’s a dangerous double-agent, Renna escapes their firing squad before they put more holes in her than a pair of fishnet stockings. But the ticking time-bomb in her head is the one thing Pallas needs to complete his master plan and he’s not about to let her get away. Even worse, he’s discovered the only thing that will bring Renna to her knees – threatening Captain Nick Finn.

Out of time and options, Renna’s got one shot to take down the traitor before he annihilates everything she loves, even though winning this battle may cost her everything.

ATHENA'S ASHES
by Jamie Grey

Renna jolted awake as a warm hand brushed against her face. She’d been dreaming again. Of ships and stars and men she’d thought long dead. And right now, she had no idea what was real and what she’d made up in her head.
Renna licked her cracked lips and opened her eyes. It took a moment for them to focus on the face hovering above her. A face from her dreams.
“Finn,” she croaked.
“Shhh.” He smiled down at her, expression full of concern. “Don’t talk, just take it easy. You’re going to be fine.” His fingers brushed a strand of hair away from her cheek, and her skin erupted in goose bumps.
If she wasn’t so weak, she’d have thrown herself at him. Instead, she ordered her own hand to touch his. It resisted at first, but eventually it moved and Finn curled his fingers around hers.
The touch lent her enough strength to ask, “Are you really here? How are you here?”
He gave her one of those heart-twisting half-smiles of his. Maybe she’d died and this was heaven. Maybe this was just another dream. But damn, if that was the case, she never wanted to wake up.
Her tongue felt like a wad of cotton in her mouth. Gods, when was the last time she’d brushed her teeth? She gestured to the glass of water on the table beside her bed. Finn helped her hold it to her lips, and she drank thirstily.
When her hand started to shake, Finn gently took the glass from her and set it on the table. “I was hoping you could tell me that,” he said, brushing back another strand of her hair. His gaze softened, making him look young and vulnerable.
An electrical jolt shot through her with an emotion she didn’t want to name. Putting her feelings into words would make them too real.
“The Athena brought us here on her own,” he said. “But Gheewala said she could sense your electronic signature on the ship. We didn’t have much choice but to believe her. And then we arrived in the space port and saw the Eris.” He studied her for a long moment, his expression curious but wary. “How did you do it?”
Renna frowned at him. “I don’t understand. Do what?”
“Control the Athena. You brought us here.”

What's your favorite aspect of writing science fiction?

The freedom to create a new world or play with our current world and explore different themes and ideas you can’t do in contemporary books. Seeing how someone reacts to a completely alien culture or world, or putting them in a situation no one has ever had to deal with before is really satisfying. But there’s also the ability to show that people are the same no matter when/where they live. Plus it’s just fun!

What does Renna consider worse: the fate of the universe in her hands, or the relationship issues she’s dealing with?

I think Renna’s biggest problem is trying to balance the fact that she’s spent all of her life trying to look out for herself and do what’s best for her, and now suddenly she’s in a situation where she has to look out for other people and she has no idea how to react.

She’s been careful to keep her relationships superficial to protect herself, but somehow she’s gotten sucked into this complicated situation where she has to face her feelings and be responsible for other people and all sorts of things she doesn’t like. So yes, she’s fine with the action of saving the galaxy, not so much with having to figure out her emotions and feelings.

If you met Renna at a bar, how would you interact?

I think I’d be totally intimidated by Renna. She’s gorgeous, charming, and self confident. But I think once we started talking, we’d get along pretty well. I think we both have a sarcastic sense of humor and similar outlook on life. (Which may or may not be a good thing LOL)

If you could live in any literary universe, which would it be?

How to choose just one!? I think I’d have to go with Narnia. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe series was my favorite growing up, and they’re still comfort reads today, so getting to live in Narnia would be amazing!
