Synopsis:

A SERVANT blackmailed into becoming a princess’s decoy.
A BODYGUARD determined to keep her alive.

A PRINCE forced to execute his father’s brutal laws.
A PRISONER used to keep him compliant.

A WORLD on the brink of war.

In one horrible night, Clare goes from kitchen maid to royal decoy. She has three months to become the princess's perfect double so she can ensure her betrothal to an enemy prince. Desperate to survive, Clare throws herself into self-defense training, taught by her distractingly attractive bodyguard. The danger increases when a ruthless assassin begins stalking her, intent on ending the tenuous peace.

Across the northern mountains, Prince Grayson is his father’s ultimate weapon. He carries out the king’s harsh orders because the one person he cares about is his father’s prisoner. Grayson's silent obedience is tested when his father plans to exploit the marriage alliance between two of their greatest enemies. If Grayson submits, the blood of thousands will spill. If he resists, the girl who means everything to him will die.

The fate of Eyrinthia hangs in the balance. Some want peace. Some want war. All will be thrown into chaos.

Can you briefly describe ROYAL DECOY and its characters?

Thanks for having me, I’m excited to be here! Royal Decoy is set in the fictional, medieval world of Eyrinthia. There are two main storylines. The first follows Clare, a servant who is blackmailed into becoming a princess’s decoy. Her new life consists of being a target for assassins, dealing with castle politics, and learning all sorts of new skills (including self-defence, taught by the enigmatic and attractive Captain Bennick Markam). Clare must become the princess’s perfect double to help ensure the princess’s betrothal to an enemy prince.

The second storyline takes place in another kingdom and follows Grayson, who is the youngest prince of Ryden. He was raised in an epically twisted family and his role is to be an enforcer of his father’s brutal laws. His father, King Henri, controls Grayson because he holds prisoner the only person Grayson cares about: his childhood friend/girl-he-loves-but-can-never-admit-he-does, Mia. But there are some orders Grayson struggles to follow, even though his father is clearly testing him—preparing him for a role in the war King Henri plans to start.

Clare and Grayson may be in different kingdoms, but it’s pretty clear that one day they are going to meet and influence each other’s lives—for good or bad is up for debate :)

Who would you say is your favourite character from the story and why?

Hmm…That’s a hard question. I feel like it changes :) But right now I’d say Grayson is my favourite, because his story is just so compelling. He grew up in a nightmare, and yet he hasn’t been corrupted by his evil, sadistic family. He has a moral compass, and even though that can be a painful thing for him sometimes, it’s there. His resiliency amazes me. Also, the chemistry between Grayson and Mia is a tangible thing, and I’m a romantic, so I love that!

How did the story occur to you? Did you find inspiration anywhere?

Several years ago I was working on a totally different project, and pieces for Royal Decoy started falling into place. I would jot the ideas down, and then try and concentrate on my other project, but, Royal Decoy just took over. Clare’s storyline fell into place first; I loved the idea of having a regular person be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and then suddenly be thrust into royal politics. I liked the idea of having my main character be the decoy, rather than the princess. I wanted to play with how she would adapt, how she would struggle, and how she would eventually find herself while pretending to be someone else. As her storyline took shape, other pieces came into play—including a terrifying assassin you won’t meet until book 2, and of course Grayson. Originally, I thought Royal Decoy would be a single POV story and that it would fill exactly one book. I even told my writers group that, and we still laugh about it, because Royal Decoy became so much more than that first vision. It’s a whole series with multiple POVs, and I think it’s a much more powerful story because of it.

If you could choose one song to describe your book, which one would it be?

I think I’ll cheat and give you two—one for each main storyline :). For Clare, I’d pick “Shake It Out”, by Florence and the Machine. For Grayson, I’d probably say “Breath”, by Breaking Benjamin.

If your book was going to be made into a movie, who would play your characters?

I think I’d prefer to have unknown actors. I know that’s not a very fun answer :)

What drink and place do you think will go with your book to have a perfect book date?

Strawberry lemonade on a beach feels like the perfect combo. If you’re like me and you don’t live near a beach, then a warm corner of the backyard also sounds nice!

Can you recommend your readers any other books in case they are left hungry for more once they finish ROYAL DECOY?

So many books! “Kiss of Deception” by Mary E. Pearson is a fantastic fantasy that I feel has a similar vibe to Royal Decoy. Also, “Falling Kingdoms” by Morgan Rhodes, and “Winner’s Curse” by Marie Rutkoski. Some other favourites of mine are “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas, the “Lux” and “Origin” series’ by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and “The False Prince” by Jennifer A. Nielsen.

If you want to try another book from me, you can check out “Seers”, book 1 of my YA Paranormal trilogy; it’s got Demons, Guardians (not angels) and a girl who can see them, which of course puts her in the middle of an immortal war. Fun times :)

What would you say is the most difficult part of writing a book?

For me, the editing stage is probably the most difficult. It can be hard to get rid of parts you love, even if it’s better for the story, and it can be a painful process to polish scenes until they gleam. But it is also one of the most rewarding stages!

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on book 2 of Royal Decoy, and I’m also working on another book that will kick off an entirely new series, which I’ll be excited to announce more details about soon!

* Beyond Fate is Jonah’s point-of-view of the events of A Matter of Fate, and is a companion novella.

I remember Joey telling me once that, of all the big waves he’s ever ridden in his life, the one that got his blood pumping most was Mavericks. “It’s sick,” he said as we waxed our boards at one of his favorite breaks near his house in Australia. “Cold as all hell. Gotta be careful of the Boneyard nearby. There’s a reason they call it that, you know. The reef below loves nothing more than to welcome you to stay forever. But,” his easy grin slid out, “when conditions are right, and you can take off in the hollow and traverse the long wall before finishing in white water, your life flashes before your eyes. You’re flying through hell like a slingshot, only to come out in paradise.”
Obviously, it made me want to surf Mavericks so bad I could taste it.
When Kel and I first got to California, we’d wanted to come here together. Ride these waves in Joey’s honor. But that never happened.
He’s with Chloe right now, after yet another attack during which she walled both him and me inside a building and took off toward San Francisco in an effort to lead what we now know as Elders away. I know why she did it. I felt it the moment her resolutions within hardened—she believed she was protecting the people she loved. In a weird way, I was incredibly proud of her for it, even as I tore my hair out, trying to get the hell out of the tomb she sealed us in so I could get out there and protect her myself. Karl and I searched for her for hours . . .
And then she decided to gut me once more by calling my brother to go and get her.
So here I am, in the back of a boat, tugging the hood of my wetsuit over my head in the pursuit of some kind of nirvana high amidst the hell I’ve found myself in lately. Raul Mesaverde’s questioning my sanity for wanting to go out into the monster waves we’re heading toward, but I do my best to ignore my temporarily assigned Guard. We’re accompanied by one of Joey’s Wave colleagues, who’s come along upon Astrid’s insistence. I tried to assure her I knew what I was doing, but considering she pretty much had an anxiety attack after researching Mavericks and learning people have died here, I figured this was the lesser of two evils.
“You’re loco,” Raul yells at me over the boat’s engine.
I laugh. This? Coming from a Cyclone? Especially one who agreed to chauffeur Chloe on her crazy attempt to lure the Elders away?
The Wave we’re with turns away from the wheel and smiles. He’s crazy, too—because he’s got that same look in his eyes that Joey always had. Like the ocean is his temple. “Nah, bra,” he tells Raul. “Maverick’s all about enlightenment.”
Raul white knuckles the side of the boat. I completely tune him out and let myself slide into that place Joey taught me about so long ago.
“When you let yourself go,” he’d told me as we’d sat out beyond the breaks, “when you put yourself out there and really just let yourself go, knowing any second you could be swallowed whole by the ocean, you’ll realize that all of that shit you worry so much about—girls, school, parents, grades, work, responsibilities—they’re meaningless. Because it’s just you and the waves. They don’t give a rat’s ass what kind of day you’re having. They don’t care if you’ve just bagged the hottest girl in the worlds or if your dad thinks you’ve failed him. They’re gonna rise up and fall no matter what. Let yourself go along that ride, J. There’s worry enough for later.”
This is what I’m thinking as I’m waiting for my set to come.
When it does, I paddle hard. Anticipation and fear is just as strong on my tongue as the salt water surrounding me. I let my worries go.
            This one’s for you, Joey.

I gladly fling myself into oblivion.

FFBC Blog Tour: Welcome to the club, Foresworn (Sisters of Fate #3) by Rinda Elliott

Foresworn (Sisters of Fate #3)
by Rinda Elliott
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Release Date: December 2nd 2014

Synopsis:

It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny.

But only if they survive…

Kat Lockwood grew up listening to her unhinged mother’s stories about the Norse goddess souls she and her triplet sisters carry, about fiery deaths and a prophecy foretelling the world’s end. Now, to save that world, Kat must find a guy who hosts the soul of a Norse god–a warrior with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.

But at a truck stop on her road trip, Kat freezes time while she writes out a cryptic message in runes. The only other person able to see this happen? A gorgeous guy with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.

Kat’s not convinced peaceful Arun is the future warrior who will turn the tide in the final battle. Yet, Arun turns out to be a lot tougher than he seems. As soul-carrying teens and underworld creatures gather over the world’s deadliest volcano, Kat finds that no one, including her sisters and mother, is exactly who she thought they were….

Sisters of Fate

The prophecy doesn’t lie: one is doomed to die.

I love unusual stories and credit growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and romance kept us amused, especially in some of the stranger places. For years, I tried to separate my darker side with my humorous and romantic one. I published short fiction, but things really started happening when I gave in and mixed it up. When not lost in fiction, I love making wine, collecting music, gaming and spending time with my husband and two children.

I’m represented by Miriam Kriss of the Irene Goodman Agency.

You can find me at http://relliott4.wordpress.com & http://www.deadlinedames.com

I’m terrible at picking one favorite of anything. I loved To Kill a Mockingbird and The Stand and there are so many romances. I picked up my first one at twelve and pretty much inhaled them after that. When paranormal romances started making an appearance, I was one very happy reader. Then I discovered urban fantasy and I was hooked. Oh, Moon Called by Patricia Briggs is probably my favorite. But then, I loved the Weather Warden books by Rachel Caine and the early Laurell K. Hamilton books. As for YA, I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and I’ve only read that first book. My agent assured me I’d love the others just as much, but I waited because at the time, I was writing my own dystopian YA. (There’s a sneak peek at my website.)

Right now, it’s The Walking Dead. I love shows about survival and the families people build. Plus, the women are written just as strongly as the men—Love that.

Anyone who reads the Sisters of Fate books is going to know I love action movies. I also adore science fiction and there aren’t nearly enough good science fiction action movies. I’m crazy about Alien and Aliens. Some other favorites are the first Matrix movie, Terminator 2, The Fifth Element, Jurassic Park, Minority Report. I’m actually watching Star Trek, the rebooted version, right now while I answer these questions. The cast picked to play the young versions of the Star Trek characters is perfect. Plus, I can watch Karl Urban in anything anytime.

You’re killing me. ;) I have way too many to list. Some favorite bands are Elsiane, Tool, Solar Fields, Mogwai, The Butterfly Effect, Over the Rhine, Fink, Anathema, Massive Attack, Puscifer, Nearly…I could go on and on here. Seriously, my love of collecting music rivals my love of collecting books.

Avocados. This one was easier. LOL!

Roarke from the J.D. Robb books and I haven’t even read them all. I did reread that first book. A lot. And it has nothing to do with his wealth and everything to do with him keeping that button in his pocket after he first meets Eve. You know, this could also be one of my all-time favorite books, too.

“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” George Eliot

It used to be authors. Then I became one and yeah, while I still fangirl over a bunch of them, I tend to get really caught up in good science fiction or urban fantasy shows like Firefly, Farscape, Buffy, Star Trek TNG, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Defiance. I really liked the third season of American Horror Story-Coven. I also loved the French show Les Revenants. So haunting and cool, and the soundtrack by Mogwai rocks.

I really wanted to meet Kim Harrison because she helped me decide to try writing again. I had written this strange book called Dweller on the Threshold but hadn’t done anything with it. Wasn’t sure what to do with it because it didn’t fit any genre I’d written in so far. I’d come very close to selling other romances I’d written for years and had pretty much quit submitting after one too many heartbreaking close-calls. I picked up her Dead Witch Walking and realized I still loved writing and maybe this genre was where I should have been. I still wanted to try and make writing a career. I polished up my Dweller, sent it out and caught the interest of my agent. I’d like to say things were easy after that, but my path to publication has been overly rocky. ;) But I did meet Kim Harrison briefly once and unfortunately, I was a rambling idiot. I wouldn’t mind a second chance someday. LOL.

Read on! I’m a book addict, too. Books are always there for us and there is nothing better than being able to escape into their worlds. And thank you so much for all the support you give authors. J

Hello Rinda! We are super excited to host you in our FFBC.

Thanks for inviting me to be on a tour. I’m thrilled to be here!

The Sisters of Fate is a trilogy told simultaneously from the points of view of three eighteen year-old sisters who carry the souls of the Norse norns. The norns were goddesses who carved runes into wood and helped shape destinies. In FORETOLD, FORECAST and FORESWORN, the Norse end of the world, Raganarok, has begun. When the sisters realize their crazy mother has gone off the deep end and plans to hurt boys who could be important in the upcoming battles to save the world, they have to split up to try and get to them first. The sisters grew up knowing that one of them is supposed to die by the hand of a future warrior. So they’re risking their lives to stop the worst from happening to everyone else.

In FORESWORN, the third and final book, the first part is the simultaneous story of what’s happening to Kat along with the stories in the first two books. Then, the stories come together. The sisters, their future warriors, and other kids carrying Norse god souls gather at Yellowstone for the final battle.

When I wrote FORETOLD, I had a vague outline of what would happen in FORESWORN. I knew it would be at Yellowstone because of the fire aspect of Ragnarok and that I’d given the sisters a history with both Norse and Arapaho roots. But what I hadn’t known was how all that would tie in with Yellowstone. I found an obscure passage about the Arapaho keeping parts of Yellowstone secret because they believed that demons and men would gather there to destroy the world. I got goose bumps when I read that. So did my editor when I shared it with her.

I have never been more nervous about a book! Seriously. And I get really nervous with all of them. LOL. Some readers really loved FORECAST, so I’m hoping they have as much fun with this final book. To keep the extremely tight timeline in place, a lot happens fast for Kat, Arun and the others and while the first two are pretty fast paced, this one is like a lightning-fast roller coaster at times. So yes, I’m nervous and hopeful.

Raven: Responsible, protective, smart, loyal, brave

Coral: Sweet, loving, clever, inwardly strong.

Kat: Cynical, fiercely protective, adventurous, mouthy.

The sisters share a lot in common, but they are also very different. Raven has put herself into the place of the provider. Their mother checked out on them at times while they were growing up and she slid into her place. Coral is closest to their mother and she inherited some of their mother’s abilities with magic. She’s clever, knows a lot about mythology and spells, and though her sisters think she’s soft, she has this inner core of strength that really comes through. Kat is angry about her life, resents her mother and has pretty much accepted that she will probably be the sister to die. But her love of Raven and Coral is fierce—there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.

I identified with all three on certain levels, but mostly with Raven. I have two younger sisters and a younger brother. Like the Lockwoods, my family moved way too much. Raven’s need for home and security is something I felt most of my life.

Oh, this is a hard question! I really enjoy writing the quieter, romantic moments between each sister and their boyfriends-to-be, but some of the active scenes were a blast. I loved writing the storm surge scene in FORECAST. In FORESWORN I have too many favorite scenes to pick. In FORETOLD, I probably loved the second warehouse scene the most. It’s when Raven distracts Vanir with some pretty hot kisses and um, a bit more, to keep him from being able to follow her. That entire scene actually came into my imagination from an image I saw on DeviantART. BTW, that’s my Raven ;)

I love them all, but FORECAST is probably my favorite. Her expression is just so Coral and I think the water aspects of the story really stand out. I do also LOVE the color scheme on FORESWORN…

I’ve thought about this so often and still don’t have someone for Raven, Coral and Kat. They’re just so strong in my imagination. And as you can see, Raven came from an art image. So, I’m looking forward to seeing who fans would cast. I will share that I had some inspirations for Vanir, Taran and Arun. I wish I could share my Taran image, but I don’t have permission to share and I can’t find the website where I originally saw it. The guy in the image has this perfect fierce expression… I can share Vanir’s inspiration, though. And this was my Arun, though Arun’s hair is lighter.

FORETOLD: Across the Stream by Elsiane

FORECAST: Beautiful Mine by The Butterfly Effect

FORESWORN: The Incision by Alone Architect

Thank you so much for everything, Rinda!

Thanks again for giving my Sisters of Fate a try. I had a blast writing these and hope readers have as much fun reading them.
