But Ward's dark trials keep mounting. A malevolent evil is rising in the land, threatening to unleash horror upon the world. The only way Ward can defeat it, and have the chance to marry Celia, is by accepting his fate and becoming the one thing he swore he would never become...

Hi, I’m Melanie Card. I love writing all different kinds of characters—each story requires different types of heroes and heroines—but one of my weaknesses is strong, confident—perhaps a little deadly—heroines. Celia Carlyle, the heroine in my Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer series, is one of these women. She’s dangerous, skilled in martial arts, willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, and quite happy to take charge of every situation.

To celebrate the fourth and final book in the Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer series, WARD AGAINST DESTRUCTION, I’m sharing my top five favorite, kick-butt alpha heroines in books, movies, and TV shows… in no particular order.

1) Buffy from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer

2) Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore

3) Two from the TV show Dark Matter

4) Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

5) Dutch from the TV show Killjoys

There are so many other strong woman in fiction, TV, and the movies. Who’s your favorite alpha heroine?

I have always been drawn to story telling. In fact, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t telling a story in my head or on paper. In grade school, we had journal writing time which I turned into story telling time, weaving tales of magic and adventure that mimicked the fairy tales and myths that I loved to read. It was there, with the help of two very special teachers, that I nurtured this love and started my journey as a writer.

I write fantasy, paranormal romance, and everything in between, seasoned with a good dash of adventure and mystery. Join me on my tales of magic, adventure, and romance.

Blog Tour: Ward Against Disaster (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer #3) by Melanie Card

Publisher: Entangled Teen
Release Date: 01/19/14

Synopsis:

Ward de'Ath should be dead by now. Instead, he’s chasing after a soul-eating creature—that he unleashed— and is bent on stopping her before she slaughters more innocents. Fortunately, Celia Carlyle remains by his side, a nobleman's gorgeous and deadly daughter, who is…well, dead.

Celia claims she’ll champion Ward wherever he goes, even when she thinks his quest is hopeless. He can only hope her pledge comes from her heart, and not because she’s bound to him through his magic.

When they enter Dulthyne, they stumble upon a dark power that threatens the entire town. Ward, with his unreliable necromancy, is determined to help but finds himself ensnared in the lure of white-hot magic…blood magic he struggles to resist. But if Celia’s love is a lie, it might just doom his soul to the dark arts forever.

Name: Celia Carlyle

Age: 19

Appearance: thin, wiry with tight corded muscle, long black hair with a blue sheen, pale icy-blue eyes, pale skin.

Likes:

· a well-crafted blade

· a good fight

· a straightforward answer (since those were so hard to get in her previous occupation)

Dislikes:

· the fancy, restrictive clothes worn by nobility (makes it difficult to properly fight)

· having no control

· a challenge. All she used to live for was a good, dangerous challenge, but that was before Ward’s life was on the line.

Background:

The youngest child of three and only daughter of Lord Carlyle, Celia grew up surrounded by privilege—both legal and illegal. Her father, the third son of the Duke of Carthelle and second Counselor to the Prince of Brawenal was also the Dominus of Brawenal’s Gentilica (the head of all organize crime in the city). With natural agility and martial prowess, Celia followed in her mother’s footsteps and joined the Assassins’ Guild. She was a rising star in the organization with plans to take over her father’s position when he retired. One evening she receives a mysterious note saying someone is trying to kill her, but before she can find out who sent it or if there’s any truth in it, she’s woken from a nap by a necromancer, Ward de’Ath, who claims she’s already dead. This is not how she planned her life to go.
