The Fantastic Flying Book Club SIGN-UPS: Blood Burdens & Sacrifice

Book Addicts!

We are really happy because we are planning another Fantastic Flying Book Club with an author that has already been in our Fantastic Flying Book Club: Brandy Nacole.
We keep spreading The Shadow World addiction and this time is for the second and the third book in this series.

This FFBC tour will start December 1st and it will end December 5th for Blood Burdens and Sacrifice. The tour will consist of reviews, dream cast (blogger's choice), interviews, guest posts, favorite quote (blogger's choice) and excerpts (blogger's choice). For those who want to do the PLAYLIST of the book, you could do it, too. Just let us know if you are interested. The ARCs will be in digital format (eARCs)

The bloggers who chose to host a guest post will be required to come up with two/three guest post topics to send to the author. The interviews must have 5 to 10 questions. It can be to the author or to a character from the book. Please, do this as soon as possible.

We would like that if you review the book you will post the review at least on Amazon and on Goodreads. We would also like you to send to us the link of your post so we can have a daily post in our blog directing our readers to your websites.

There will be a giveaway that we will send the code along with the details of the book before the event starts.

Blood Burdens (The Shadow World #2)
Release Date: December 18th 2012

Synopsis:

As someone with four Shadow bloodlines, Racquel is uniquely unwelcome even among her fellow werewolves, shape-shifters, vampires, and witches. Growing up, she was bullied and tormented for being a “hybrid,” a condition frowned upon by Shadow society. After saving her sister and a number of other kidnapped Shadows from a diabolical plot to create a Shadow army, many have found a new respect for Racquel, but she is far from accepted in Shadow society, and the evil is far from over.

To complicate matters, Racquel now finds herself torn between two brothers. Coy is caring and has helped Racquel through her struggles, and Micah, who Racquel has only met once but who is somehow, having dream conversations with him. Racquel becomes torn between following her heart while breaking it at the same time.

In the second installment of the Shadow World series, Racquel and her sister Addie face off with the Shadow leaders against a threat that could bring the world to its knees. Power will be pushed to its limit, hearts will be broken, and some will pay the ultimate price as Racquel and her group of Shadows fight against an ancient evil that is determined to make the earth bleed and Racquel with it.

Sacrifice: A New Dawn (The Shadow World #3)
Release Date: September 24th 2013

Synopsis:

Racquel was once uniquely unwelcome, an outcast in both the human and Shadow worlds. In desperation, the Shadows—the loose alliance of Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Shape Shifters and Faeries—turned to Racquel for help against the sorceress Cerelia, who threatened all Shadows.

Now that Racquel has protected the Shadows by defeating Cerelia, it seems like things are picking up. Racquel is ready to challenge the Shadows’ Ruling Council on the injustice of the laws that made her and her family outcasts among the Shadows, and which is causing suffering among her friends.

Racquel has little time to enjoy her victory. Micah, an innocent subjected to experiments by Cerelia and now the only other person in the world like Racquel, is summoned to appear before the Ruling Council to be examined. The Council has already warned that if Micah is deemed to be “unclean” and a threat to the Shadows, he will be executed.

And there are agendas hidden in agendas, as well. A secret faction wants to challenge Racquel, who they still see as being an unclean creature due to her mixed-Shadow heritage. Worse still, the mysterious prophecy made by Kaya, queen of the Fay, is about to become true, and Racquel is about to be faced with her deepest fear: that she is still unwelcome in the world. Betrayed trust and a new danger to the Shadow world are waiting for Racquel, and in the end, she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the world and her friends from destruction.

Brandy Nacole resides in Arkansas where her imagination runs wild. Her obsession is reading but her passion is writing. She put her dream of becoming a writer on the back burner and went to college to become a psychologist. Three years after endless classes in a field she only felt half satisfied with, Brandy picked up her pen once again and wrote the outline to Uniquely Unwelcome. She finished out her degree in psychology, but traded her dream of writing for the degree and put psychology on the back burner.

Whenever she’s not reading or writing, Brandy is spending time with her family and friends, throwing around crazy ideas, teaching , and singing like a rock star at a concert for no one else but herself. She loves plants, but unfortunately is a killer of anything that requires water but can’t voice (scream) their needs.

FFBC Tour: Uniquely Unwelcome (The Shadow World #1) by Brandy Nacole

Uniquely Unwelcome (The Shadow World #1)
Brandy Nacole
267 pages
Release Date: September 20th, 2012
Rate: Loved it

Welcome to Brandy Nacole's world, in which all the fantastical creatures you have read about before: shape-shifters, witches, lycans, faeries, vampires... All of them live side by side in a world called Shadow World. With a organized society all the Shadows lived in their clans or sections in the city. The Vampires live in a part of the city with humans who might disappear some day without being noticed and where lycans are not allowed to go. Then there's the witches, the faeries, the shape shifters near de mountains, etc. But all the Shadows go a little bit crazy when one of each Shadow starts to disappear, randomly, and from everywhere.
That's where our main character comes in. Racquel is a crazy combination of Shadows. It all started with her great grandparents when they united a shape-shifter with a lycan. And now she's a vampire, a lycan, a shifter and a witch. Yep, pretty crazy. But imagine all the things Racquel can or could do.
The Shadow society is afraid of what they don't know about, what they are not familiar about, and mingling different species it's an aberration. Racquel has lived all her life feeling the hatred of his own kind, no matter what she did. They even experimented on her to see what she was capable of. And now they needed her help to save their loved ones.
She's not all convinced to saved the ones that made her life a living hell, but her witch sister (it's a long familiar tree. You'll have to read the story to know everything *wink*) has been kidnapped as well and she'd do anything for the only person that still has faith in her and doesn't treat her like a monster or some creature to be afraid of.
That's where Racquel's journey starts and along with a Lycan, Ethan. They travel to the different clans, finding new people to save or to help them, a witch, a human and a vampire and together they will save not just the Shadows that are missing, but the entire Shadow World.
This book promises a lot of action, love, unexpected turns and mysterious places and stories that would captivate you from the first page.
If you are looking for a supernatural summer read with a lot of action and badass characters, this is your book. Although we don't feel all supernatural in summer, we love to read romantic novels while resting on the beach, this book is definitely an exception to our summer routine. And we can assure you that it's worth it.
We're still concerned for the ending of the book and for the main character, Racquel, so we're looking forward to read the second book, Blood Burdens, and see what happens next, because it's blowing our minds just thinking about it!

Creating the Shadow World

The idea of Racquel’s character, who is a hybrid, actually started from a dream.  In the dream, Racquel was an outcast not only with people like her, the Shadows, but also with the humans.  Why?  Because in the Shadow World, races of each being are not supposed to fall in love with one another and have children.  But Racquel’s great-grandparents did, which led to one crazy, outcast bloodline.  Racquel is part vampire, shifter, witch, and lycan.  This shouldn’t have even been possible since each Shadow being is basically lethal to one another, but with the help of a witch, her family prevailed.
Racquel’s supporting characters weren’t really defined in the dream, so I decided that the characters I created would all be affected by the strict rules of the Shadow World, one way or another.
Ethan is a full blood lycan who hates Racquel, just like everyone else.  But as the series progresses, we see how the laws affect him and all lycan families.  Danika is a witch who is too dependent on the Covenant Elders.  She always feels the need to report to them and obey their every command.  Jared is a sarcastic vampire that tries to play it cool, but underneath that façade he can be rather serious.  Addie is Racquel’s half-sister.  She is a pure witch but she is very protective of Racquel, especially after they lose their parents and grandparents.  Coy is the only human in the series.  He’s a feeder, whose brother was taken captive along with Racquel’s sister Addie, and will stop at nothing to find him, even if it means death.  Even though Coy is the only one without any sort of inhuman strength or power, he’s still determined to help.

As all the characters come together to fight a force that wants to gain control over all Shadows and bring them out of hiding to reveal to the world, they begin to learn and understand one another.  And they realize that even if they can stop the all controlling villain, their fight isn’t over.  The laws of the Shadow World cause just as much pain as any over-bearing, centuries old psycho, and Racquel becomes determined to change all that.
