Synopsis:

For fans of Bared to You and Beautiful Bastard comes the first book in an irresistible new erotic romance series, in which competition is the ultimate seduction, GETTING ROUGH by C.L. Parker.

Hotshot San Diego sports agent Shaw Matthews and his sexy professional adversary Cassidy Whalen have gone head-to-head in the boardroom—and the bedroom. Now Shaw has scored a big promotion—but only because Cassidy turned it down and ran off. There are many things he wants when it comes to Cassidy—just not her pity. So Shaw rushes to a small town in Maine to retrieve his dignity—and maybe the woman he’s hungry to claim once more.

Cassidy has pushed herself to the max to realize her career dreams—until a family crisis brings her home. But Shaw isn’t letting Cassidy go that easily. Neither is gorgeous heartthrob Casey Michaels, the childhood sweetheart she left behind—and who now wants to win her back. As the rivalry between the two alpha males intensifies, and Shaw’s seductive moves reach a whole new level of heat, Cassidy has to make a choice. And this time, it’s for the highest stakes of all.

In this second book of the Monkey Business Trio series, we read once again from Cassidy and Shaw's point of views, but also from two new additions to the story that will cause a lot of trouble to these two.

This time, was continue the story that left us open-mouthed in that first book when Cassidy simply leaves and Shaw goes after her (YAY!). But Shaw's intention was to reprimand Cassidy for dropping out the job, but ends up more entangled in their relationship. However, the famous Casey, Cassidy's ex-boyfriend, is also in the picture this time and is threatening Shaw's relationship by trying to win Cassidy back. In the meantime, a new addition in the group called Mia will force a jealousy outburst on Cassidy.

Overall, it was a good story. We find a bit of conclusion and I was left more satisfied with this ending than the previous one. However, this doesn't mean I don't want to read the third book! I like that finally Casey is in the picture and Cassidy has the chance to have closure either with Shaw or with Casey. Despite that Shaw knew thanks to Cassidy's tattoo and what she told him in the first book, that she had a soft spot for her ex-boyfriend. Despite that, there are some scenes in the book that I just want to hug Shaw and smack him in the head for not being more angry about it!

Regarding the four POV we encounter in this book... since the story is focused on the two main characters, Cassidy and Shaw, the change of POV's was not as important to me as a reader as Cassidy's or Shaw's. Is true that the other POV's give an extra insight to the relationships in the story, but I have to confess that I cared more for the main couple.

Overall, this was the book to the character's path to a happy ending: solving their problems, their relationships and finally saying to The One, that they are in love with her/him. It was nice to see those changes throughout the story and there's a big change from the characters we know to the ones we end up having on the epilogue. And I just love when there is a big progression in the story.

I recommend the book to those romance readers out there who won't mind having steamy and sexy scenes in their stories. This is not a book you can grab without reading the first. I highly recommend that you read the first book in the series before starting with this one.

*I received this ARC in exchange of an honest review. Thank you to Penguin Random House for offering me this copy and giving me the chance to continue this series.

C. L. Parker is a romance author who writes stories that sizzle. She’s a small-town girl with big-city dreams and enough tenacity to see them come to fruition. Having been the outgoing sort for all her life—which translates to “she just wouldn’t shut the hell up”—it’s no wonder Parker eventually turned to writing as a way to let her voice, and those of the people living inside her head, be heard. She loves hard, laughs until it hurts, and lives like there’s no tomorrow. In her world, everything truly does happen for a reason.
