Synopsis:

Can Evie convince her rival loves to work together? Their survival depends on it in this third book of #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles, a nonstop action tale of rescue, redemption, and a revenge most wicked.

Heartbreaking decisions
Evie was almost seduced by the life of comfort that Death offered her—until Jack was threatened by two of the most horrific Arcana, The Lovers. She will do anything to save him, even escape Death’s uncanny prison, full of beautiful objects, material comforts…and stolen glances from a former love.

Uncertain victory
Despite leaving a part of her heart behind with Death, Evie sets out into a frozen and perilous post-apocalyptic wasteland to meet up with her allies and launch an attack on The Lovers and the vast army they command. Such formidable enemies require a battle plan, and the only way to kill them once and for all may mean Evie, Jack, and Death allying. Evie doesn’t know what will prove more impossible: surviving slavers, plague, Bagmen and other Arcana—or convincing Jack and Death to work together.

Two heroes returned
There’s a thin line between love and hate, and Evie just doesn’t know where she stands with either Jack or Death. Will this unlikely trio be able to defeat The Lovers without killing one another first?

*This review may contain spoiler for those who haven't read Poison Princess & Endless Knight. Otherwise, this review is free of spoilers.*

The Arcana Chronicles already started with the first book being nothing of what I expected, full of action, romance and tarot-magic. Definitely what I would call an epic series. But it keeps getting better and better with each new book and Dead of Winter really reached the climax that all readers were seeing coming. Kresley Cole will make you bring the fangirl inside of you, blow your mind and make you want to love even more The Arcana Chronicles (did not know that was possible).

In Dead of Winter we get to see Evie flying from Aric's lair, to go rescue Jack who's being held by The Lovers: Vincent and Violet Milovnici. Two brothers that are famous about their tortures and that you definitely wouldn't like to see near you. So as you might predict, this book is about getting to know The Lovers. We have heard about them in the previous books, but now Evie is forced to face them in order to save Jack.

Moreover, in Dead Of Winter we have what I would like to call "The perks of choosing between Jack and Aric". Evie has to decide which boy has won more her heart and the whole book goes around these three. But don't get me wrong, there's no sloppiness or over excessive romance! We get to see how the couples could be together in between running for the lives, running to save someone and trying to stop the game/apocalypse.

I might venture to say that those who have chosen a team (Team Death or Team Jack) might change their minds or at least be in Team Fence like me. There are some scenes with Death that will melt all the fans' hearts and some scenes with Jack that will make fans remember what it was like between these two in the first book and what their relationship represents.

I love when an author makes fans love their romances, specifically a love triangle, because it's hard for everyone to like it. But this is one love triangle you have to love due to the story and the characters. Ms. Cole always makes me doubt in which team I am. When I have decided, another page in the story makes me change my mind and I don't think that's easy to achieve.

The story is amazingly written and the readers has no opportunity to get lost or bored while reading the book. You will find yourself absorbing all the details and finish the book and want more and more!

What makes this book a huge epic read and definitely a favorite read of 2015, is not only the romance in the story, but not really knowing what's really going to happen. And when the climax comes leaves the readers breathless, shocked and amazed about it. But another climax comes and gets you right in the feels, leaving you heartbroken and dying to know what's going to happen next.

An epic read has to have the potential to make you laugh, cry and mostly feel about the characters and the story, and Kresley Cole has accomplished that, not only with one book, but with three! And I will venture to say that this is the most emotional book so far in The Arcana Chronicles.

So in this book we have romance, more Jack and Aric moments, more actions, new cards, friendship, betrayal and new mind-blowing and unexpected twists and turns. What else could you ask for? Oh, right, for the next book. At least I am, because I think I might go like Matthew if I don't read the next book! And I believe there's going to be a next book because we haven't met all the cards and Evie hasn't fulfilled his purpose, to end the game. Plus with that ending? There HAS to be a next book!

Am I recommending this book to you? Of course! Grab a copy of Dead of Winter, Book Addicts, because it's an epic YA reads who will leave you breathless and aching for more. That's why I have rated it with five stars and because I don't have more.

Kresley Cole is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the electrifying Immortals After Dark paranormal series and the young adult Arcana Chronicles. She has also written five award-winning historical romances.

Since her first novel was released in 2003, Kresley has published nineteen books with Simon & Schuster and has seen her releases translated into more than eighteen foreign languages. She has traveled over much of the world and draws from those experiences to create her memorable characters and settings. Two of her favorite places to visit include the rain forests of Central America and the Queensland area of Australia.

Cole’s trademark action, sensuality, and humor are exemplified in her popular Immortals After Dark Series, which revolves around the Lore, a secret stratum of hundreds of immortal creatures--ranging from Vampires to Lykae, Furies to Shifters, and Fey to Valkyrie--that each have their strengths, weaknesses, and age old prejudices against the others. Though they secretly live among humans, they constantly war among themselves, which gives her a lot of material.

In 2007, Kresley won the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for best paranormal for her novel A Hunger Like No Other, and in January 2009, she became a #1 New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestseller with her sixth IAD installment, Kiss of a Demon King. In 2010, Kiss of a Demon King earned Kresley her second RITA award. 2011 brought Cole her second #1 NYT bestseller with Dreams of a Dark Warrior.

She lives in Florida with her husband and far too many animals. She spends any free time traveling and enjoys all things related to boats and water. You can learn more about Kresley at www.kresleycole.com.
