Synopsis:
It’s time.
Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.
The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.
In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.
Sweet Reckoning is an epic finale for the Sweet Trilogy. I can say without a doubt that this book was one of my favorite in the series and fans won't be disappointed with it. It has everything: romance, action, friendship, unexpected turns and one ending that would make you smile like a lunatic and cry because you won't have new stories about Anna and the Neph.
In this book we get to see more about Anna and Kaidan as a couple. Anna's more secure of herself, stronger and ready to fight for a future without the Dukes.
Kaidan, on the other hand, is the perfect book boyfriend. He's no longer running from Anna and the feelings they have for each other and is willing to fight to have her. I am definitely in love with him, her british accent and his badass attitude. That hasn't change a bit. But with his new romantic side, he melt my heart!
The romance between these two was perfect and you can clearly see why they were destined to be together from the very first book. They are so much better together than apart, and having them grasping at happiness brought some of the best moments in the book.
There are new characters and the already known Neph. However, in this book, they are more unite. Maybe because the battle is near, but you get to see some of the greater moments of the whole gang together. Blake is even more hilarious. You get to know a soft side Ginger never had before. Marna is even sweeter and you can't stop smiling when she's with Anna. Jay finally gets to be (truly) inside the gang and show his caring side for one particular Neph. Kope has the chance at happiness, too. And Z stops being so afraid. The only sad part was Flynn (you'll know why I'm saying this when you read the book).
All the characters (human and Neph) were amazing. Is one of these gangs you like every single character from it, even the ones with some peculiarities.
The plot was fast paced and pretty easy to read. The author, without losing her undeniable touch throughout the story, brought a lot of action and love at the same time, without losing the main point in the story: sending the Dukes either to heaven or to Hell.
There's a lot of twists and unexpected outcomes. I was completely on edge the whole time. Not knowing what was going to happen and I was aching to see every Neph with their happy and well-deserved ending. I can assure you that there were a lot of emotions while reading the book. However, the almost-ending (moments previous, during and after the battle) was definitely the cliff-hanger in the story and Wendy Higgins completely riveted it. There were a lot of things I never saw it coming and I couldn't stop feeling sad, happy and relieved at the same time. And most important, there's nothing that leaves the reader wondering "what happened with...".
The only thing that I'd have liked to see more was to have a couple of more chapters about the lives of the Neph after the battle. We get the opportunity to read about them, but not as much as I'd have liked. Maybe because I'm one of those crazy fans that would make Wendy write about them endlessly!
Sweet Reckoning is a gripping story. A haunting story for the expected finale of the Sweet Trilogy which stayed with me long after I'd finished reading it. The only sad thing about it is not having more books to read about Anna, Kaidan and the other Neph. I adore this series and I love every single character. Even though this was the ending of the series, The Sweet Trilogy will always be one of my favorite YA series.
Sweet Reckoning is definitely the best tribute for the Sweet Trilogy and one of the best finales I've read in a series so far. I highly recommend this book to YA romance and paranormal fans. And if you have not read the Sweet Trilogy books, I say you have to give it a try. You'd be fascinated with it from the very first page.
