Synopsis:

It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny.

But only if they survive…

Kat Lockwood grew up listening to her unhinged mother’s stories about the Norse goddess souls she and her triplet sisters carry, about fiery deaths and a prophecy foretelling the world’s end. Now, to save that world, Kat must find a guy who hosts the soul of a Norse god–a warrior with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.

But at a truck stop on her road trip, Kat freezes time while she writes out a cryptic message in runes. The only other person able to see this happen? A gorgeous guy with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.

Kat’s not convinced peaceful Arun is the future warrior who will turn the tide in the final battle. Yet, Arun turns out to be a lot tougher than he seems. As soul-carrying teens and underworld creatures gather over the world’s deadliest volcano, Kat finds that no one, including her sisters and mother, is exactly who she thought they were….

Sisters of Fate

The prophecy doesn’t lie: one is doomed to die.

I love unusual stories and credit growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and romance kept us amused, especially in some of the stranger places. For years, I tried to separate my darker side with my humorous and romantic one. I published short fiction, but things really started happening when I gave in and mixed it up. When not lost in fiction, I love making wine, collecting music, gaming and spending time with my husband and two children.

I’m represented by Miriam Kriss of the Irene Goodman Agency.

I’m terrible at picking one favorite of anything. I loved To Kill a Mockingbird and The Stand and there are so many romances. I picked up my first one at twelve and pretty much inhaled them after that. When paranormal romances started making an appearance, I was one very happy reader. Then I discovered urban fantasy and I was hooked. Oh, Moon Called by Patricia Briggs is probably my favorite. But then, I loved the Weather Warden books by Rachel Caine and the early Laurell K. Hamilton books. As for YA, I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and I’ve only read that first book. My agent assured me I’d love the others just as much, but I waited because at the time, I was writing my own dystopian YA. (There’s a sneak peek at my website.)

Right now, it’s The Walking Dead. I love shows about survival and the families people build. Plus, the women are written just as strongly as the men—Love that.

Anyone who reads the Sisters of Fate books is going to know I love action movies. I also adore science fiction and there aren’t nearly enough good science fiction action movies. I’m crazy about Alien and Aliens. Some other favorites are the first Matrix movie, Terminator 2, The Fifth Element, Jurassic Park, Minority Report. I’m actually watching Star Trek, the rebooted version, right now while I answer these questions. The cast picked to play the young versions of the Star Trek characters is perfect. Plus, I can watch Karl Urban in anything anytime.

You’re killing me. ;) I have way too many to list. Some favorite bands are Elsiane, Tool, Solar Fields, Mogwai, The Butterfly Effect, Over the Rhine, Fink, Anathema, Massive Attack, Puscifer, Nearly…I could go on and on here. Seriously, my love of collecting music rivals my love of collecting books.

Avocados. This one was easier. LOL!

Roarke from the J.D. Robb books and I haven’t even read them all. I did reread that first book. A lot. And it has nothing to do with his wealth and everything to do with him keeping that button in his pocket after he first meets Eve. You know, this could also be one of my all-time favorite books, too.

“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” George Eliot

It used to be authors. Then I became one and yeah, while I still fangirl over a bunch of them, I tend to get really caught up in good science fiction or urban fantasy shows like Firefly, Farscape, Buffy, Star Trek TNG, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Defiance. I really liked the third season of American Horror Story-Coven. I also loved the French show Les Revenants. So haunting and cool, and the soundtrack by Mogwai rocks.

I really wanted to meet Kim Harrison because she helped me decide to try writing again. I had written this strange book called Dweller on the Threshold but hadn’t done anything with it. Wasn’t sure what to do with it because it didn’t fit any genre I’d written in so far. I’d come very close to selling other romances I’d written for years and had pretty much quit submitting after one too many heartbreaking close-calls. I picked up her Dead Witch Walking and realized I still loved writing and maybe this genre was where I should have been. I still wanted to try and make writing a career. I polished up my Dweller, sent it out and caught the interest of my agent. I’d like to say things were easy after that, but my path to publication has been overly rocky. ;) But I did meet Kim Harrison briefly once and unfortunately, I was a rambling idiot. I wouldn’t mind a second chance someday. LOL.

Read on! I’m a book addict, too. Books are always there for us and there is nothing better than being able to escape into their worlds. And thank you so much for all the support you give authors. J

Hello Rinda! We are super excited to host you in our FFBC.

Thanks for inviting me to be on a tour. I’m thrilled to be here!

The Sisters of Fate is a trilogy told simultaneously from the points of view of three eighteen year-old sisters who carry the souls of the Norse norns. The norns were goddesses who carved runes into wood and helped shape destinies. In FORETOLD, FORECAST and FORESWORN, the Norse end of the world, Raganarok, has begun. When the sisters realize their crazy mother has gone off the deep end and plans to hurt boys who could be important in the upcoming battles to save the world, they have to split up to try and get to them first. The sisters grew up knowing that one of them is supposed to die by the hand of a future warrior. So they’re risking their lives to stop the worst from happening to everyone else.

In FORESWORN, the third and final book, the first part is the simultaneous story of what’s happening to Kat along with the stories in the first two books. Then, the stories come together. The sisters, their future warriors, and other kids carrying Norse god souls gather at Yellowstone for the final battle.

When I wrote FORETOLD, I had a vague outline of what would happen in FORESWORN. I knew it would be at Yellowstone because of the fire aspect of Ragnarok and that I’d given the sisters a history with both Norse and Arapaho roots. But what I hadn’t known was how all that would tie in with Yellowstone. I found an obscure passage about the Arapaho keeping parts of Yellowstone secret because they believed that demons and men would gather there to destroy the world. I got goose bumps when I read that. So did my editor when I shared it with her.

I have never been more nervous about a book! Seriously. And I get really nervous with all of them. LOL. Some readers really loved FORECAST, so I’m hoping they have as much fun with this final book. To keep the extremely tight timeline in place, a lot happens fast for Kat, Arun and the others and while the first two are pretty fast paced, this one is like a lightning-fast roller coaster at times. So yes, I’m nervous and hopeful.

Raven: Responsible, protective, smart, loyal, brave

Coral: Sweet, loving, clever, inwardly strong.

Kat: Cynical, fiercely protective, adventurous, mouthy.

The sisters share a lot in common, but they are also very different. Raven has put herself into the place of the provider. Their mother checked out on them at times while they were growing up and she slid into her place. Coral is closest to their mother and she inherited some of their mother’s abilities with magic. She’s clever, knows a lot about mythology and spells, and though her sisters think she’s soft, she has this inner core of strength that really comes through. Kat is angry about her life, resents her mother and has pretty much accepted that she will probably be the sister to die. But her love of Raven and Coral is fierce—there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.

I identified with all three on certain levels, but mostly with Raven. I have two younger sisters and a younger brother. Like the Lockwoods, my family moved way too much. Raven’s need for home and security is something I felt most of my life.

Oh, this is a hard question! I really enjoy writing the quieter, romantic moments between each sister and their boyfriends-to-be, but some of the active scenes were a blast. I loved writing the storm surge scene in FORECAST. In FORESWORN I have too many favorite scenes to pick. In FORETOLD, I probably loved the second warehouse scene the most. It’s when Raven distracts Vanir with some pretty hot kisses and um, a bit more, to keep him from being able to follow her. That entire scene actually came into my imagination from an image I saw on DeviantART. BTW, that’s my Raven ;)

I love them all, but FORECAST is probably my favorite. Her expression is just so Coral and I think the water aspects of the story really stand out. I do also LOVE the color scheme on FORESWORN…

I’ve thought about this so often and still don’t have someone for Raven, Coral and Kat. They’re just so strong in my imagination. And as you can see, Raven came from an art image. So, I’m looking forward to seeing who fans would cast. I will share that I had some inspirations for Vanir, Taran and Arun. I wish I could share my Taran image, but I don’t have permission to share and I can’t find the website where I originally saw it. The guy in the image has this perfect fierce expression… I can share Vanir’s inspiration, though. And this was my Arun, though Arun’s hair is lighter.

FORETOLD: Across the Stream by Elsiane

FORECAST: Beautiful Mine by The Butterfly Effect

FORESWORN: The Incision by Alone Architect

Thank you so much for everything, Rinda!

Thanks again for giving my Sisters of Fate a try. I had a blast writing these and hope readers have as much fun reading them.
