Three Nights with a Rock Star (Half-Life #1)
by Amber Lin & Shari Slade
Release Date: June 2nd 2014
Rate: Hated it (1 star)
Synopsis:
When Hailey crashes a Half-Life after party, she expects to find the bastard who knocked up her little sister. Instead she meets the sexy front-man who agrees to give her access to his crew if she gives him access to her body.
All Lock demands in return is three days of complete control over the Sunday School teacher. With a contract, because he’s been burned before. One misstep could send the band—and his tenuous sobriety—up in flames.
Hailey and Lock push each other’s limits… Against the penthouse window. Backstage. In the limo and on the elevator. But as the contract counts down, neither are ready for the party to end.
I have wanted to read this book because the synopsis and the title promised a good and sexy story, but I had a lot of times during the reading that I wanted to leave the book and forget about it. But I hate to do leave books unread, so I kept going.
I did not like this book because I didn't feel any connection with the main character at all. She made some choices and put some excuses as to why she decided to do it that were pretty absurd and it would have been better to recognize she wanted to be the person "she becomes" with Lock. Moreover, it was hard for me to believe that such a religious person could change her beliefs in a couple of hours. I think that the 15% of the book it was about meeting her explaining us that she was doing this sort of sacrifice for her sister, going to find the father of her sister's unborn child to a rockstar band, and when she meets Lock... well, let's just say it all goes for sex, sex and more sex.
I am not complaining about the heated scenes, the synopsis warned all readers about this, but I am complaining about the lack of sense from the characters. Plus the plot was not a consistent one and a hard-to-believe one regardless of the story being a fictional one.
I have always had a thing for New Adult stories hosting a wild rock star in them, but this story was definitely not for me. I hope the authors don't get offended by my review, but I was hoping for much more than what I read. However, I'll keep reading more of these authors' work.
Her debut novel, Giving It Up, received The Romance Review’s Top Pick, Night Owl Top Pick, and 5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies. RT Book Reviews gave it 4.5 stars, calling it “truly extraordinary.” She has been published by Loose Id, Carina Press, and Entangled.
Amber married her high school sweetheart, birthed a kid who’s smarter than she is, and spends her nights writing down her dirty thoughts. In other words, life is good. Come say hi back on twitter, through goodreads, or by email.
Shari Slade is a snarky optimist. A would-be academic with big dreams and very little means. When she isn’t toiling away in the non-profit sector, she’s writing gritty stories about identity and people who make terrible choices in the name of love (or lust). Somehow, it all works out in the end. If she had a patronus it would be a platypus.
